For aspiring scholars who want to pursue their undergraduate study in the Land of the Morning Calm - South Korea, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines wants to inform all interested applicants to grab this opportunity to apply for the 2025 Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) Undergraduate Degree Program.
What is the Purpose of the Scholarship Program?
The Global Korea Scholarship Undergraduate Degree Program shall pave the way for international students to conduct their undergraduate academic study at higher educational institutions in South Korea allowing mutual understanding in terms of friendship and education between Korea and the participating countries.
What are the Available Programs for the Scholarship Program?
As per the announcement, there will be one student (1) from the Philippines who will be selected for the Global Korea Scholarship Undergraduate Degree Program.
Available degrees for the scholarship program include Associate Degree comprised of 1-year Korean language program plus 2-3 years of degree program and Bachelor's Degree comprised of 1-year Korean language program 4-6 years of degree program.
The great news is that all field of studies are offered by Global Korea Scholarship Undergraduate Degree Program to all participating universities.
Who may Apply for the Scholarship Program?
Applicants for Global Korea Scholarship Undergraduate Degree Program must be able to possess the following eligibility criteria that was asked by the Embassy which include:
- hold citizenship of NIIED designated countries that are invited to take part in the GKS program applicants' parents (or legal guardians) must hold citizenship from another country other than Korea;
- bachelor's degree program is for applicants who graduated (or are expected to graduate) from a high school or from an associate degree program;
- associate degree program is for applicants who graduated (or are expected to graduate) from a high school;
- cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of the entire curriculum from the previous (degree) program must meet one of the two conditions below:
- score percentile should be 80% or above on a 100-point scale or be ranked within the top -20% within one's class;
- CGPA must be equal to or above 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5 or 3.23/5.0;
- must be under 25 years of age (born after March 1, 2000)
- must have no grounds for disqualification (e.g., criminal history) for overseas travel); and
- must be in good health, both mentally and physically, to study in Korea for the full duration of the program.
What are the Necessary Documentary Requirements for Submission?
All applicants for Global Korea Scholarship Undergraduate Degree Program must accomplished the necessary documentary requirements below as set out by the Embassy which are:
(form 1) application form;
- (form 2) personal statement;
- (form 3) study plan;
- (form 4) one letter of recommendation;
- (form 5) GKS applicant agreement;
- (form 6) personal medical assessment;
- proof of citizenship (applicant and parents) and proof of family relationship;
- high school graduation certificate (or certificate of expected graduation);
- academic transcript of high school curriculum;
- graduation certificate (or certificate of expected graduation) of associate degree program;
- academic transcript of associate degree;
- proof of overseas Korean document;
- proof of Korean citizenship renunciation document;
- proof of Korean war veteran's descendant;
- score report of valid TOPIK (original) or English Proficiency Test (copy);
- copy of awards and other certificates, etc. (copy); and
- applicant's passport (copy).
What is the Timeline and Selection Process Schedule?
Below is the proper step-by-step process for Global Korea Scholarship Undergraduate Degree Program that all interested applicants shall undergo:
- Application Period: September 12- October 4, 2024 (Until 24:00H)
- Application Review Results: October 11, 2024
- Interview: October 17, 2024
- Announcement of Successful Candidate: October 18, 2024
What are the Benefits of the Scholarship Program?
The qualified scholar who will be selected for Global Korea Scholarship Undergraduate Degree Program will be able to receive the following benefits:
- up to 5 million KRW for degree program;
- 5.2 million KRW (four quarters) for Korean language program;
- economy class flight ticket (actual expense) for both program;
In total:
- Korean language program will amount to 12,800,000 KRW (Php524,800) per year.
- Degree program will amount to 13,600,000 KRW (Php557,600) per year.
The study incentive will cover settlement allowance, monthly allowance, research allowance, Korean proficiency grants, TOPIK application fee, degree completion grants, medical insurance, and publication printing fee.
