As the prevailing market price of commercial rice range from Php49 and above, the Department of Agriculture (DA)'s Kadiwa Centers are selling affordable rice for only Php29 per kilo.
According to ABS-CBN News' report, the Php29 rice per kilo's objective is to help the vulnerable sector cope with the current inflation.
The DA added that the Php29 rice per kilo is up for grabs for senior citizens, solo parents, PWDs, and members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
The Php29 rice per kilo will help the above mentioned sectors as DA reiterated that they are the people who have limited to no purchasing powers.
To avail the Php29 rice per kilo, buyers will have to present their Identification Cards (IDs) to show that they come from the four categories eligible for cheaper rice.
The Kadiwa Stores selling the Php29 rice per kilo usually open at 7 a.m. until supplies last, which is from Monday to Friday.
As of the moment, the Php29 rice per kilo is available in Kadiwa Centers in Quezon City, Caloocan, Valenzuela, Manila, and Las Piñas. Approximately 550 bags are often released.
Meanwhile, buyers who have availed of the Php29 rice per kilo commended that it is of good quality, almost equivalent to regular to well-milled commercial rice.
Although, the Php29 rice per kilo initiative is not yet for the general public, and not all are eligible to buy, the mass may wait for the eventual lowering of rice prices as soon as lower tariffs for imports occurred.
Well, the DA said that the mechanics for wider rollout for the Php29 rice per kilo are on the process of finalization as the source of funds to subsidize the cheaper rice is still on discussions.
However, the Php29 rice per kilo initiative was initially planned to expand in an attempt to help 30 percent of the country's population, which also fall under the vulnerable and poor sector.
As per Inquirer.Net's published report, the DA plans to import 363,697 metric tons (MT) of rice to support a government program in selling aging rice with still of good quality to vulnerable sectors at a subsidized price of P29 beginning July.
Under the scheme, each household will be allowed to buy 10 kilograms of this rice a month in select Kadiwa stores.
