Time has finally come for those government employees working as contractual and job-order in the Philippines as President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. has granted the release of Php7,000 gratuity pay for them for the fiscal year 2024.
The administrative order (AO) no. 28 was released on Friday and according to the press release there are grounds that must be met by employees in the contract of service (COS) and job-order (JO) arrangement in the government.

What is a Gratuity Pay?
The gratuity pay is a one-time grant given to employees working in the government in a contractual and job-order basis. The amount shall be given based on the length of service and satisfactory performance.
How Much is a Gratuity Pay?
The gratuity pay will be given to qualified contractual and job-order government employees not to exceed Php7,000.

Who Qualifies for Gratuity Pay?
The gratuity pay will be given to COS and JO workers working in the national government agencies, state universities and colleges, government-owned or -controlled corporations, and local water districts
Those who have rendered a total or an aggregate of at least four months of actual satisfactory performance of service as of December 15, 2024, and whose contracts are still effective as of the same date are eligible for the gratuity pay.
On the other hand, those who have rendered less than four months of service as of December 15 and whose contracts are still effective as of the same date are also eligible to receive the gratuity pay.

However, these are the grounds or pro-rata basis for the amount that they are going to be granted:
- 3 months but less than 4 months- not more than Php6,000
- 2 months but less than 3 months- not more than Php5,000
- less than 2 months- not more than Php4,000
To clarify some terms, actual service shall refer to services rendered on-site. Do note however, that subject to the discretion of the Agency Head and the availability of funds, services rendered by COS and JO workers under any alternative work arrangement prescribed under Section 6.1 COA-DBM JC No. 1 (s. 2022) may also be considered as actual service.

When will the Gratuity Pay Get Released?
The gratuity pay as per the press release will be released not earlier than December 15, 2024 to all qualified COS and JO government employees.
Increase in Gratuity Pay
The gratuity pay amount underwent an increase from the usual Php5,000 which is now at Php7,000. To recap, the last hike in the gratuity pay occurred in 2021 which raised from Php3,000 to Php5,000.
The increase is considered a milestone for the administration giving tribute to COS and JO employees in the country highlighting the significant contributions that they also provide.
Their contributions is said to be invaluable and they also deserve to be happy this Christmas and New Year and shouldn't be left empty handed.
Recently, there was also an increase in the Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) from Php18,000 to Php20,000. The SRI is a also a one-time incentive given to government employees yearly in order to acknowledge their dedication and commitment in providing quality and responsive public service.
