It is with utter joy for public school teachers to finally acquire a hike in teaching allowance after President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. signs into law the "Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act" today.
The Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act mandates to double the teaching allowance of public school teachers from Php5,000 to Php10,000.
In a ceremony conducted in the Malacanang, the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act also known as Republic Act (RA) 11997, was labeled by the President as "a significant milestone" for the Philippine education.
Marcos reiterated that the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act shall put a great emphasis on the need to improve the educational system in the Philippines and the need to do so should be done immediately.
The Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act shall provide additional funds to help teachers with expenses related to blended learning such as internet, electricity, and essential devices like laptops.
As for the record released by Malacañang, historically, public school teachers' allowances have increased gradually from P100 in 1988 to P5,000 by 2021.
According to Marcos, teachers have been carrying the burden of spending their own money to provide materials in aiding them in teaching while trying to increase the support that they can give their families.
He added that teachers teach because they feel and they have to, as such, the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act is such a great move to support them in their goals.
The Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act shall be a huge help both for the students and teachers, afterall, the government is responsible of taking care of them so that they can focus "on doing what is best for themselves and for their families, for their communities, and thereby for their country."
The Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act is just the beginning of all that we wish to accomplish for them and for the country, Marcos stressed.
In compliance with the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act, the teaching allowance of each teachers will be Php10,000 for the school year 2025-2026 and the subsequent years.
Under the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act, teachers will be exempted from income tax.
The initial budget allocation for the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act shall be charged against the current budget of the Department of Education (DepEd).
