If you are an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who is seeking for medical help because of a disease or because you were hospitalized, whether you are in your job site or while you are in the Philippines, then the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is offering a program that will alleviate your financial burden through a program called Supplemental Medical Assistance for OFWs (MEDplus).

What is MEDplus?
MEDplus is a financial assistance scheme initiated by OWWA by which objective is to provide help to active OWWA and PhilHealth member-OFWs for their hospital/medical bills.
The amount shall be equivalent to the PhilHealth benefits under its case rate system but not to exceed fifty thousand pesos (Php 50,000) per member.
Who may Apply for MEDplus?
Those who want to avail the MEDplus must be active OWWA members with active PhilHealth membership.

What are the Necessary Documentary Requirements for MEDplus?
Provided that you meet the eligibility criteria for MEDplus application, you may now prepare the following necessary documents for your submission:
- OFW membership record (MR);
- MEDPlus application form;
- one (1) copy of passport size picture;
- valid passport;
- valid identification (I.D) card;
- member data record from PhilHealth; and
- medical certificate.
The necessary documentary requirements shall be secured from the corresponding agency, institution, or personnel, respectively.
- OWWA RWO;
- OWWA RWO;
- OFW member or claimant;
- DFA;
- government or company issued;
- PhilHealth; and
- competent medical practitioner from legitimate medical institution/facility.

If there are instances where the family of OFW will be the one to claim the assistance because the OFW is abroad, they shall prepare a duly notarized special power of attorney executed by the OFW.
Meanwhile, if the OFW is deceased, they must prepare the death certificate of deceased OFW/ marriage certificate or birth certificate of NOK-claimant issued by Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Both of these documents shall be secured from legal practitioner PSA or local civil registrar (LCR).

How to Avail the MEDplus?
Upon accomplishing all the necessary documents, you may now follow the procedure outlined below to proceed with your application process:
Step 1: Personally appear at the nearest OWWA Regional Welfare Office which is the permanent address of the OFW.
Step 2: Obtain your priority number (ticket), and wait for the designated personnel to accommodate you.
Step 3: You will have to present your ID at counter of the Social Benefits Unit for the verification of your Membership Record.
Step 4: Hand them all your accomplished application form and requirements and then present your claim stub in order to claim your financial assistance through check or cash pay-out.
Step 5: Now that you claimed your check, proceed to the cashier or the releasing window and hand them your 2 valid IDs such as passport, postal, voter’s, company, driver’s license, senior citizens, NBI clearance (original/valid), or PRC license.
