A little background check, way back 1983, the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and staff established the Peace Corps Alumni Foundation for Development to allow former volunteers and staff to remain connected to the Philippines and to each other in a worthy cause.
As such, the Peace Corps Alumni Foundation for Development scholarship program was created in order to provide Filipinos the opportunity to pursue their education and eventually leading them in contributing to the development of the Philippines.
Peace Corps Alumni Foundation for Development scholarship program
The Peace Corps Alumni Foundation for Development scholarship program is willing to support scholars who have the potential to be leaders in their corresponding communities and have the eagerness to contribute in improving the quality life of Filipinos.
What awaits scholars when they qualify for the Peace Corps Alumni Foundation for Development scholarship program include the following privileges:
- full tuition and other school fees;
- allowance for books and educational supplies;
- living allowance per semester;
- reimbursement for other education-related activities (with prior approval);
Those applicants for graduate school must demonstrate their need for assistance with living expenses in order to be considered for the living allowance benefit.
Those undergraduate applicants will be provided a laptop computer provided by the foundation.
Those graduate students will not receive the abovementioned benefit but they may avail up to Php10,000 to support their thesis.
Those receiving thesis funding graduate students shall submit a funding proposal to the Vice President of Philippines Operations.
Now, let's proceed with the qualifications that must be met both by undergraduate and graduate students to be eligible for Peace Corps Alumni Foundation for Developments scholarship program.
For Peace Corps Alumni Foundation for Development scholarship program for undergraduate, prospective scholars must be:
- citizens of the Republic of the Philippines;
- current grade 12 senior high school students, high school graduates not currently enrolled and college students in need of several years of funding;
- have a record of strong academic performance, leadership, and community service experiences;
- demonstrate financial need. Priority is given to applicants from low-income households, generally those below the poverty line;
- be committed to serving your community and country, following your graduation from college; and
- applicants proposing fields of study with high potential to contribute to Philippine development will be given priority in the selection process.
Note that the following courses are not currently being supported such as nursing, medical technology, graduate study in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and in addition, law.
Meanwhile, for Peace Corps Alumni Foundation for Development scholarship program for graduate include potential scholars such as:
- citizens of the Republic of the Philippines;
- have completed an undergraduate degree;
- have at least one (1) year of professional work experience;
- have a record of strong academic performance, leadership, and community service experiences;
- demonstrate financial need;
- be committed to serving your community and/or country, in the Philippines, following completion of your masters degree; and
- pass any qualifying tests for the school or program to which you are applying before the scholarship is granted.
