Call for applications for SEARCA Joint MS/PhD scholarship program

SEARCA also known as the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture, a non-profit organization created by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) in 1966, has started to accept applications last August 1 for the Joint MS/PhD scholarship program.

SEARCA’s main objective is to strengthen the institutional capacities in agricultural and rural development in Southeast Asia which is why the Joint MS/PhD scholarship program will be offered to citizens of the following SEAMEO member countries:

  • Brunei Darussalam;
  • Cambodia;
  • Indonesia;
  • Lao People’s Democratic Republic;
  • Malaysia;
  • Myanmar;
  • the Philippines;
  • Singapore;
  • Thailand;
  • Timor-Leste;
  • and Vietnam.

In order to be considered in the Joint MS/PhD scholarship program, all interested applicants must fulfill the general eligibility criteria listed below upon the conditions of SEARCA:

  • must be under SEAMEO member countries who are regular employees of academic or research institutions or government agencies;
  • must not be more than 40 (Master’s ODegree) or 45 (PhD) years of age at the time of application;
  • must have areas of specialization aligned in agriculture or related sciences;
  • must have a proposed thesis research focus on SEARCA’s indicated overarching theme.

Upon successfully qualifying for the Joint MS/ PhD scholarship program, a comprehensive benefits shall be granted to scholars these include, but are not limited to:

  • tuition and other school fees;
  • travel allowance;
  • thesis/dissertation support;
  • book and supplies allowance;
  • health insurance;
  • stipend for food, lodging; and
  • incidental expenses.

The participating universities will serve as study posts for Master’s and PhD scholars, however, it will vary depending on the specific joint scholarship projects.

  • Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB)- Bogor, Indonesia
  • Universitas Brawijaya (UB)- Malang, Indonesia
  • Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM)- Yogyakarta, Indonesia
  • Kasetsart University (KU)- Bangkok, Thailand
  • Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)- Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia
  • University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB)- Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines
  • Sejong University- Seoul, South Korea
  • Tokyo University of Agriculture- Tokyo, Japan
  • National Taiwan University- Taipei, Taiwan
