In an increasingly globalized world, language proficiency has become a critical skill for employment, especially for Filipinos aspiring to work abroad or in multinational companies. Recognizing this, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) established Language Skills Institutes (LSIs) across the country to offer free language training in key international languages.
This initiative empowers Filipinos by equipping them with the communication skills needed to thrive in culturally diverse work environments. TESDA’s free language courses currently include English, Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, and Arabic, and are offered at selected TESDA training centers nationwide.
Why Language Skills Matter
The ability to communicate effectively in a foreign language not only increases employment opportunities but also helps Filipino workers integrate into international workplaces more efficiently. From nurses in Japan to hotel staff in the Middle East, a strong grasp of the relevant language and culture is vital for success.
TESDA’s Language Skills Institutes were designed to fill this need, offering high-quality, structured, and culturally relevant language training at no cost to the trainee.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the language training really free?
Yes. All language training programs under TESDA’s LSIs are completely free of charge for qualified Filipino citizens.
Can I take multiple language courses?
Usually, trainees are encouraged to focus on one course at a time. However, you may take another course after completing the first one, depending on availability and your career goals.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes. After successful completion of the course and all assessments, TESDA will issue a Certificate of Training Completion, which can be used when applying for jobs locally or abroad.
Are there job opportunities after the course?
While TESDA does not directly place graduates into jobs, language proficiency can significantly boost your chances of getting hired. Some courses are tied to government-to-government employment programs (like JPEPA), while others prepare you for local employment in BPO, hospitality, and customer service industries.
