U.S Embassy in the Philippines is pleased to announce the opening of a fellowship program called Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Academic Fellowship for the fall 2024.
This initiative allows emerging leaders from the Philippines to experience a five-week exchange program in the United States which will help them enhance their skills on civic engagement, social entrepreneurship, economic development, and environmental sustainability.
Participants of the fellowship will undergo seminar discussions, readings, group presentations, and lectures. Classroom activities will be complemented by educational travel, site visits, leadership activities, and volunteer opportunities in local communities.
The fellowship will also let participants to explore educational study tour to other areas of the United States and meet local, state, private, and non-profit organizations.
Qualifications for the fellowship were strictly followed, in order to be considered in the program, one must be either full-time undergraduate student or graduate from college, university, or other institutions of higher learning from the past four years who showed leadership on their academic work, community involvement, extracurricular activities, or professional work.
One must be between the ages of 18 and 25 during the application, however, an exceptional applicant over 25 may be considered provided that he/she meets all other eligibility requirements.
One must also be a citizen of the Philippines, a resident especially, who is proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
Participants should not worry about their expenses as the U.S. State Department will fully funds the fellowship. Fellowship package include program administration, international and visa travel, travel allowances, domestic travel and ground transportation, books and incidental allowances, and housing and subsistence.
Applications will be accepted until May 1, 2024 at 11:59 PM, Philippine Standard Time. Shortlisted applicants will be notified on May 2024. Announcement of results will be out between June or July. The fellowship will commence between August to November.
