The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are highly prestigious scholarships offered by the Swiss government to international students.
These scholarships aim to promote international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and other countries.
The program provides funding opportunities for Research Fellowships, PhD, and Postdoctoral studies in Switzerland.

Who can apply for the program?
For RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP:
Eligibility Criteria:
- Master degree or equivalent achieved (degree certificate) before 31 July 2023 (except: ETH Zurich: 30 June 2023)
- Applicants must be born after December 31, 1987.
- A research proposal including a timeframe.
- Mandatory letter from an academic host professor (including her/his short CV)
Duration:
- Scholarship start for the academic year 2023-24: September 1, 2023
- 12 months maximum (starting in September)
- No prolongation possible.
Amount:
- The scholarship amounts to a monthly payment of CHF 1’920 (Php 121,747.2- Amount may vary on exchange rates).
- The scholarship amount covers the living costs of one person only.
- This scholarship is not a salary.
For PhD:
Eligibility Criteria:
- Master’s degree or equivalent university degree achieved before July 31, 2023 (except: ETH Zurich: June 30, 2023) (degree certificate completed)
- Applicants must be born after December 31, 1987.
- A research proposal including a timeframe.
- Mandatory letter from an academic host professor (including her/his short CV).
Duration:
- Scholarship start for the academic year 2023-24: September 1, 2023
- 12 months (starting in September)
- Prolongable up to 36 months. The scholarship is awarded in three steps of 12 months each based on the achieved academic results.
Amount:
- The scholarship amounts to a monthly payment of CHF 1’920 (Php 121,747.2- Amount may vary on exchange rates).
- The scholarship amount covers the living costs of one person only.
- This scholarship is not a salary.
For POSTDOCTORAL:
Eligibility Criteria:
- PhD degree achieved after December 31, 2019 and before July 31, 2023 (except: ETH Zurich: June 30, 2023) PhD degree certificate completed.
- A research proposal including a timeframe.
- Mandatory letter from an academic host professor (including her/his short CV).
Duration:
- Scholarship start for the academic year 2023-24: September 1, 2023
- 12 months maximum (starting in September)
- No prolongation possible.
Amount:
- The scholarship amounts to a monthly payment of CHF 3’500 (Php 221,935- Amount may vary on exchange rates).
- The scholarship amount covers the living costs of one person only.
- This scholarship is not a salary.
