In this article, we will share with you the top 6 mobile reading apps you can use as alternatives to ease your boredom this pandemic. And what’s more heavenly than enjoying a cup of coffee or tea while raining and reading your favorite story? These reading apps contain varied genres and writers from local and international in which you can choose from. Seventy-five percent of the stories here are free while the remaining thirty-percent are applied by some writers for pay-to-read program. Nevertheless, all you have to do is download the app from the Google Play Store, create an account and you’re good to go! Let’s not dilly-dally anymore and get down to the lists!
1. WATTPAD
Wattpad is an online social reading platform that allows users to read and publish original stories. The website, which was developed by Allen Lau and Ivan Yuen, aims to form social groups around stories and break down barriers between readers and writers.
Wattpad offers stories in over 50 languages, and the Watty Awards, the world's largest writing competition, attracts approximately 300,000 writers from 35 countries each year. Some of these stories are being adapted into TV dramas and films.
Does Maxinejiji, Jonaxx, Purpleyhan, Headphonesandluck, AkosiIbarra ring a bell to you? Personally, I love Headphonesandluck and AkosiIbarra’s stories since I really like Mystery/Thriller/Detective stories. Plus, their stories do not have the typical storyline and plot. With bizarre plot twist and characters if I may add. I learned a lot from their stories especially codes and ciphers. Creepy as it may sound but my fondness for AkosiIbarra made me scheme to search his house in Pampanga when he was still in hype. Don’t worry though, it was all just a plan.
2. DREAME
Dreame is a reading app for female readers between the ages of 18 and 35 in the English-speaking South Asian market.
Serialized online fiction is unavoidably becoming the next big thing in publishing. Online fiction series can bring the audience closer to the author and allow them to engage in the writing process, which is quite different from reading books or e-books. Apart from enjoying their favorite literature, readers have the opportunity to interact with authors and influence the plots of their favorite novels.
Dreame takes seriously the reading habits of female readers and their aesthetic expectations in order to provide intriguing new titles in a variety of genres for female readers. They've built Dreame as a female-oriented reading platform where female authors can find inspiration for new worlds for female readers.
Dreame has numerous genres of novels such as Romance, Werewolf, Vampire, Billionaire, Marriage, Suspense and more!
3. GOOD NOVEL
GoodNovel has plenty of experienced and talented authors from around the world and has gathered the most recent, high-quality chapters from popular web novels and books. This is a must-have book app for the majority of web novel fans.
Good Novel offers several genres of stories for its readers including Fantasy, Adventure, Romance, Scary Novel, Young Adult Novel and LGBTQ+Novel.
4. WEBNOVEL
WebNovel is an interactive online reading platform that mixes copyright licensing with cooperation. The languages they provide here are English, Spanish, Bahasa Melayu, Vietnamese, Bahasa Indonesia, and Hindi.
Webnovel gives the appropriate online platform for people all over the world who want to write. It helps authors serialize their works, whether they are novels or comics. Readers can read free chapters and then purchase the remaining chapters if they want to continue reading. Webnovel is a staunch supporter of copyright laws while still encouraging creativity. Webnovel's pay-to-read approach has enabled an increasing number of creators to profit from their work, resulting in qualitative improvements in authors' lives all around the world.
5. WEBTOON
Fancy of manhwa or comics? Webtoon will do the tricks for you! Each episode here is published on one long, vertical strip (using an infinite canvas rather than multiple pages to make it easier to read on a smartphone or computer); some will include music and animations that play during each chapter; and, unlike most East Asian comics, they will most likely be in color rather than black-and-white because they are published digitally on a website or app rather than physically.
The first story I finished reading here is True Beauty which had been adapted as South Korean Television Series starring Moon Ga-young, Cha Eun-Woo, and Hwang In-Yeop.
6. MANGATOON
Akin to Webtoon, Mangatoon is a mobile application for reading comics and manga. If you are a fan of animes, this reading app is totally for you! The program includes dozens of HD comics, including romance manga, action comics, and black-and-white manga, that are updated on a regular basis. Every week, new comics are released that can be downloaded for offline reading.
