Australia Awards are prestigious international scholarships funded by the Australian Government, offering the next generation of Filipino leaders an opportunity to undertake study, research and professional development.
The program has two categories – open and targeted. The open category is offered to Filipino leaders from both public and private sector who are interested to pursue postgraduate studies in Australia and implement a development project in the Philippines. Meanwhile, the targeted category is offered to Australia’s key partner agencies delivering priority development initiatives. The partner organisation nominates applicants from their agency who are expected to contribute to their organisational development upon return.
Who can apply for the scholarships?
FOR OPEN CATEGORY:
Applications are strongly encouraged from ALL eligible citizens of the Philippines (regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or disability) who meet the program’s eligibility criteria, especially these Philippines-specific criteria:
- At least 2 years of cumulative professional work experience
In a position where skills can be used to effectively contribute change in the Philippines
Residing in the Philippines for at least last 12 months
Has a Re-Entry Action Plan (REAP) that contributes to Philippine development
FOR TARGETED CATEGORY:
Nominees Should:
- be a citizen of the Philippines
be holder of a bachelor’s degree
be residing in the Philippines for at least 12 months
be a regular employee of a AAAEP-P partner organisation
be in a leadership role where the enhanced technical or managerial skills to be gained via the recommended AAAEP-P study program can be used to effectively contribute to the agreed change agenda of the organisation
preferably SG-18 and above
preferably at least five (5) year work experience with public sectorhave passed the interview process of the agency’s scholarship committee
have passed the medical screening of partner organisation
have achieved a satisfactory English Proficiency Result: 6.5 overall band in IELTS with no individual band scores lower than 6.0; or above 92 TOEFL IBT results; or 58 overall band in PTE with no individual band scores lower than 54
not have pending permanent residency application in Australia, New Zealand and other countries
not be married, or engaged to, or a de facto of, an Australian/New Zealand citizen
not have pending obligations from Australia Awards or another scholarship program
not currently holding another scholarship and that would result in overlapping contracts as well as benefits
no pending application to other scholarship programs locally or internationally
no pending administrative, criminal or civil case
be able to take up the scholarship place in the academic year for which the award is offered
should be willing to sign a scholarship contract with Australia Awards
should be willing to sign a service contract with the nominating agency
should be willing to sign an agreement to fully implement the REAP
What are the benefits under the scholarships?
Australia Awards Scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian higher education institution, including any preparatory training. The following benefits generally apply:
- full tuition fees
return air travel– payment of a single return, economy class airfare to and from Australia, via the most direct route
establishment allowance– a once only payment as a contribution towards accommodation expenses, text books, study materials
Contribution to Living Expenses (CLE) – a fortnightly contribution to basic living expenses paid at a rate determined by the department.
Introductory Academic Program (IAP)– a compulsory program prior to the commencement of formal academic studies covering information on living and studying in Australia
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of the award (for award holder only)– provided to cover the scholar's basic medical costs (with the exception of pre-existing conditions)
Pre-course English (PCE) fees–if deemed necessary PCE may be available for students for in-country and/or in-Australia training
supplementary academic support may be available to ensure a scholar's academic success or enhance their academic experience
fieldwork (for research awards and Masters by coursework which have a research component where fieldwork is compulsory) may be available for eligible research students for one return economy class airfare via the most direct route to their country of citizenship or within Australia.
