Heads up incoming college students! The Commission on Higher Education, being the agency tasked to promote quality higher education in the Philippines, is pleased to announce that the application for Merit Scholarship Program for AY 2023-2024 is now open!
The scholarship aimed to support underprivileged and homeless citizens (RA 7279), persons with disability (RA 7277); and solo parents and/or their dependents (RA 8371).
Scholars may pursue their undergraduate studies in any CHED recognized priority programs in private higher education institutions (HEIs) or State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs).
A qualified scholar may be awarded a full or partial scholarship. The scholarship has 13,455 slots available so hurry up and read the detailed announcement of CHED below.
Who can apply for the scholarship?
According to CHED, all interested applicants must:
-be a Filipino citizen;
-be a graduating high school student/ High school graduate;
-have general weighted average (GWA) of at least 90% or its equivalent computed as follows:
- if computed grade 11 + semester of grade 12 then grade is computed as ((Average GWA of Grade 11) + (GWA of grade 12/3)) * 70%
- if completed grade 12 then grade is computed as grade 12 GWA * 70%
-belong to the special group of persons such as the underprivileged and Homeless Citizens under Republic Act (RA) No. 7279, Persons with Disability (PWDs) under RA No. 7277 as amended, Solo Parents and/or their Dependents under RA 8371
Note: Applicants shall submit certifications and/or Identification Cards (IDs) issued by the appropriate offices or agencies.
-have avail of only one government-funded financial assistance program.

What are the benefits under the scholarship?
Scholars shall be entitled to the following:
Private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)
Full merit: Total and annual (P120,000)
- Tuition and other school fees: P40,000
- Stipend: P70,000
- Book/Connectivity Allowance: P10,000
Half merit: Total and annual (P60,000)
- Tuition and other school fees: P20,000
- Stipend: P35,000
- Book/Connectivity Allowance: P5,000
State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs)
Full merit: Total and annual (P80,000)
- Tuition and other school fees: Free
- Stipend: P70,000
- Book/Connectivity Allowance: P10,000
Half merit: Total and annual (P40,000)
- Tuition and other school fees: Free
- Stipend: P35,000
- Book/Connectivity Allowance: P5,000
