To start accommodating those who do not have high purchasing power, the Department of Agriculture (DA) has some good news for consumers in the Philippines.
It was recently announced by the DA that Filipinos will now be able to buy a a well-milled rice at P45 per kilo.
The P45 per kilo rice are being sold in select Kadiwa Stores. To recap, the initiative selling P45 per kilo rice has started last August 1, 2024.
The launch of the scheme was called Rice for All Program which objective is to allow Filipinos buy rice at prices lower than prevailing market prices.
Currently, imported commercial well-milled rice price ranges from P51 to P55 while local commercial well-milled rice ranges from P45 to P55.
Those who want to purchase the P45 per kilo rice, it will initially be available in four Kadiwa sites including FTI Taguig, Caloocan, Barangay Potrero in Malabon, and Bureau of Plant Industry in Manila.
While the initiative tend to ease the current high inflation rate, consumers will be limited to 25 kilos each to avoid hoarding rice stocks.
The DA stated that the stocks for well-milled rice to be sold in Kadiwa sites will be from commercial stakeholders.
It could be imported or could be local depending on the traders that will participate in the scheme, the DA added.
Just previously, the DA announced selling aging NFA stocks rice for 4Ps beneficiaries, solo parents, seniors, and PWDs at P29 per kilo.
On the other hand, select Kadiwa Stores are also said to be selling premium rice at P52 per kilo.
Accountant to the announcement, the lower rice prices being offered in Kadiwa sites are as goods as it was directly sourced from farmers.
Those who are interested to avail the P45 per kilo rice shall visit the select Kadiwa sites on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
As of the moment, there are a total of 17 Kadiwa sites offering P29 per kilo sourced from aging stocks of the National Food Authority.
Data stated that rice inflation slowed slightly to 22.5 percent in June from 23 percent in May.
