Good news for all riders and motor vehicle owners out there! The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has made it easier for vehicle owners to check their plate verification and registration – all processed just by online means! Even motor vehicle owners may check for their plate verification with this new feature.

However, it is best to arrange with your dealers first regarding the process and condition of your motorcycle plates. For those interested, you may visit the LTO website: https://www.lto.net.ph/

From there, you may just scroll through the website until you see the services which the LTO offers just below the homepage.

Among the three services is “Motor Vehicle 7-Character Plate Backlog Inquiry” which is the one you are looking for. This option will allow you access to see whether your vehicle’s plate verification has been approved.

Just enter your vehicle’s file number, and the system itself will check the status of your vehicle’s plate verification.

Extended Registration

Moreover, the agency has recently given further extension for the validity of registration of motorcycle vehicles. This is so congestion and overcrowding throughout the LTO offices could be avoided especially now that the country is facing against the coronavirus disease pandemic.

Upon the advisory of the agency, the LTO has once again extended the plate verification of motorcycle vehicles whose license plates end with the numbers 6, 7, and 8 until the 30th of October 2020. The previous deadline was moved from the month of June to July to August until the end of October.

A renewal registration was also moved to December 31 of the same year for motorcycle vehicles whose license plates end with 9 and 0. The renewal registration was previously scheduled for September and October.

As such, no penalty and surcharge will be subjected for renewal transactions as long as the transaction has been fulfilled within the timeframe of the revised schedule. However, the LTO has urged not to wait until the last day of the revised schedule for the renewal of the plate verification. This is so overcrowding and stampede could efficiently be avoided and to minimize the transmission of COVID-19.

The extension was made for the efficient organizing and processing of transactions. Similarly, it is so strict health protocols in line with the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases could be implemented and followed.

Unregistered Vehicles

The Commission on Audit (COA) however stated that over 75% of the vehicles under the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have still not been registered in compliance with the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

COA implicated that the non-registration of vehicles goes against Republic Act 4136, the Land Transportation and Traffic Code. RA 4136 requires the registration of all motorcycle vehicles as well as other vehicles.

Moreover, the commission stressed upon the duty of MMDA which is to “follow strictly with rules and regulation prescribed by LTO for motor vehicle registration.”

To which MMDA answered that the non-registration of vehicles are due to different reasons:

  • The inability of vehicles to get a passing mark from LTO Inspection
  • Plate numbers being unavailable which is the basis of scheduling and monitoring
  • Incomplete documents; and
  • End-users prioritizing the registration renewal
