Nurses residency offered by New Zealand: Here’s what you need to know

As per ABS-CBN news report, changes to the immigration system, according to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, will allow qualified individuals to begin receiving fast-tracked residency.

Additionally, specialist doctors were also included on New Zealand’s “Green List,” which enables skilled workerd in difficult-to-fill positions to get residency.

According to the New Zealand Nurses Organization, the nation requires about 4,000 extra nurses.

Based on Health Minister Andrew Little, New Zealand required hundreds of mental health nurses alone.

After more than two years of travel restrictions to combat COVID-19, the nation just completely opened its borders in August.

The message to nurses worldwide according to Ardern is that New Zealand is the “best place to live, work and play”.

The opposition criticized the immigration settings adjustment, saying it should have happened sooner.

The government’s significant concession on providing migrant nurses with a straight route to residence ought to have taken place a year ago, according to immigration spokeswoman for the National Party Erica Stanford.

“Leaving migrant nurses off the fast track to residence pathway was nothing short of madness while New Zealand faced critical staff shortages.”

Ten more occupations were added to the Green List, including those in the healthcare, education, and construction industries, to assist the nation’s labor force grow.

Merely 97,000 people are currently unemployed and seeking for work in New Zealand, where the unemployment rate is only 3.3 percent.
