Many people have the misconception that the PNR is the oldest railway in the country. When in fact, the first-ever railway was formally inaugurated on the 24th of November 1892. However, the 1964 Congress was the one responsible for the creation of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) with a goal to provide a Philippine-wide railroad transportation system.
